The issue that everyone is making excuses for now is Moral Gravitas. Because none of the Republican Presidential candidates have it, the subject is being avoided except for the new obliquely promoted virtues we keep hearing; Compromise is a virtue; Denial makes the world go round, etc.
There is plenty of guilt-tripping being thrown around as well. It goes something like this: "Hillary will win if you don't compromise your values. Just hold your nose and vote for someone who not only doesn't believe in the Republican platform but has no celebratory virtues or morals at all."
Please remember two things:
One - we are now seeing what the Republican Big Tent strategy of the late 80s has really brought us. Next we'll have Log Cabin Republicans running as the last best hope for America.
Two -Remember what Reagan said in 1962. "I didn't leave the Democratic Party. The party left me." Replace "Democratic" with "Republican". Just let this phrase sink in, because it's what the Republican party will be hearing in the future. The very foolish thin-skinned mentality that has gotten us to this point, is the same one that will crash the Republican party.
When it comes down to it, Democrats vote their morals when they vote for Hillary, Republicans will vote their morals when they hold their nose and pull the lever, and real conservatives will vote their morals and stay home.
